Skill building courses

Has it been awhile since you were in the classroom?

The Industrial and System Engineering department offers free online Skill Building Courses for students who would benefit from reviewing core concepts in the following areas:

  • Math Fundamentals for Engineers
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Introduction to Programming

These are not designed to replace a full course in the topics. They provide a refresher overview to help students revisit concepts on which they may be out of practice.

Courses are offered online only.

Probability and Statistics
This course offers an overview of foundational concepts in probability and statistical analysis relevant to engineering. It covers topics such as random variables, distributions, descriptive statistics, estimation, and hypothesis testing. Students reinforce an understanding of how uncertainty and data-driven reasoning inform engineering decisions.

Introduction to Programming
This refresher course introduces students to the basic principles of programming and computational thinking. It highlights fundamental concepts such as variables, functions, data structures and mathematical programming operations and libraries. The focus is on preparing students to complete programming tasks encountered in the engineering management courses. The course is taught in the Python programming language.

Math Fundamentals for Engineers
This refresher provides a focused review of the mathematical tools most commonly used in engineering coursework. Students revisit key topics such as calculus, linear algebra, and matrix operations, with an emphasis on problem-solving techniques and practical application. The goal is to reinforce essential skills so students can enter their core classes with confidence.
